This framework draws from Dato Joey Yapβs interpretation of the BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny) system, a modern application of classical Chinese metaphysics for self-awareness and life strategy.
How You Engage with the World
This refers to the way your personality expresses itself outwardly, through your actions, decisions, and daily interactions. Are you someone who thrives in structured environments or prefers to stay flexible and go with the flow? Do you like to plan everything in advance, or do you leave room for spontaneity? This part of your personality helps shape how you operate in the real world, guiding how you organize your time, approach challenges, and respond to your surroundings. Itβs not about right or wrong. Itβs about recognizing your natural style so you can work with it, not against it.
π§βπ€βπ§ The Companion/Connection Structure
The Companion Structure, also known as The Connectors, represents individuals who excel at building relationships. Naturally social and deeply people-oriented, Connectors thrive on forming bonds, engaging with others, and often go out of their way to make those around them feel comfortable and appreciated.
They are typically seen as some of the most friendly and approachable people in any group, often surrounded by loyal friends and supportive allies. Their natural charm and conversational ease make them exceptional networkers, the kind who can light up a room with their presence.
Interestingly, Companion types often show a dual nature: they can be extroverted in social environments yet crave solitude when recharging. They live in the moment and are generally drawn to novel experiences and new adventures, making them adaptable and open-minded in dynamic settings.
πΌοΈ The Output/Creation Structure
The Output Structure, known as The Creators, represents individuals who are natural idea generators, dreamers, and visionaries. Creators are the ones who imagine bold possibilities, craft innovative solutions, and often take pride in standing out from the crowd. Their thinking tends to be unconventional, original, and frequently challenges traditional norms.
Energetic, witty, and expressive, Creators often shine in social settings and may naturally become the center of attention. They possess a magnetic presence, a sharp sense of humor, and a confident, articulate communication style that draws others in.
However, this confidence can sometimes tilt into arrogance. When Creators are not grounded, they may come across as showy or dismissive β especially toward ideas they perceive as βtoo ordinary.β At their worst, they risk being seen as self-absorbed or immature. But when channeled constructively, their boldness and brilliance can spark inspiration and lead others into exciting, uncharted territory.
πΌ The Managers/Wealth Structure
The Wealth Structure, known as The Managers, represents individuals who are action-oriented, highly responsible, and driven by a need for control and order. Managers are natural doers who thrive in leadership roles, especially when they have the autonomy to execute things their way.
They possess a strong sense of self-confidence and are known for being decisive, practical, and efficient. Once theyβve made a decision, they rarely waver. Their grounded and independent nature makes them reliable and results-driven β the kind of people who get things done, no matter the obstacles.
However, their desire for control can sometimes become excessive. At their worst, Managers may fall into patterns of micromanagement or dominate situations to the point of stifling others, potentially coming off as rigid or even overbearing. Their authoritative presence, while effective in high-pressure environments, can also make them resistant to taking direction or feedback from others.
When balanced, though, Managers are powerful stabilizers, capable of leading with clarity, discipline, and a relentless focus on execution.
π£ The Influencer/Supporter Structure
The Influence Structure, known as The Supporters, represents individuals who carry a quiet strength rooted in empathy, diplomacy, and calm authority. Often described as warm, approachable, and grounded, Supporters naturally create harmony wherever they go.
They thrive in stable, low-conflict environments and are most effective when helping others feel heard, safe, and included. Their instinct to promote peace and minimize tension makes them excellent mediators and team players, often serving as the emotional backbone in group dynamics.
Supporters are the ones people confide in, the trusted presence others turn to during conflict or stress. Theyβre emotionally intelligent, deeply considerate, and prefer to work behind the scenes rather than seek the spotlight. Though their demeanor is calm and composed, their impact is powerful: they lead by influence, not force, and elevate others simply by being steady and kind.
π» The Resources/Thinker Structure
The Resource Structure, known as The Thinker, represents individuals who are naturally reflective, insightful, and deeply knowledgeable. Thinkers are valued for their intellect, methodical approach, and love of learning. They rarely act on impulse, preferring to plan, analyze, and understand before they take action.
They are often seen as trusted advisors and problem-solvers, thanks to their ability to absorb and process complex information. Thinkers are deeply curious, and their wisdom comes not just from study, but from their patience and persistence in seeking the truth.
Their belief in the potential of others often makes them compassionate listeners and supportive allies. However, their thoughtful nature can also lead to over-analysis or delayed action, sometimes bordering on procrastination. They may spend so much time preparing that they hesitate to move forward.
Still, when they act, they do so with precision and depth, bringing clarity, logic, and valuable insight to any situation.
π Important Note
You may have more than 1 dominant Structure (where you have some scores). It is not about which Structure is strongest and only using that Structure. It is about knowing which dominant Structure that you can switch to in different situations. Even having a Structure with low score, you still can somewhat leverage on its energy, if you're willing to put in a little bit more effort.
Do not worry is you don't have any of the structure. There is no perfect BaZi chart. The focus should be how you're going to maximise your existing potential, not creating something that you don't have.
